About Me

Hi all, I was diagnosed with a bicuspid valve in my early thirties. It was monitored by cardiologists until i was 40. It was decided at that time I should have surgery to replace the valve with a porcine tissue valve. First surgery February 2011. I was 41. Doctor David McGiffin was my surgeon and I could never say enough about his talent and abilities. Sadly I was still angry that I had this issue and did not treat the event with the care and respect it deserved. Nevertheless all went well and I experienced a healthy twelve years. In July of 2023 I went to my 6 mos regular cardiac visit. My doctor heard a murmur. After a few tests it was decided that it was time again for surgery. That was completed at University of Alabama by Doctor James Davies. A confident and extremely talented surgeon. I feel lucky that I was able to have surgery so quickly with him. It was completed Thursday July 27 2023. i did choose to use a mechanical valve this time. I do not want to do this again. I understand the risks of the blood thinners. I do not have career or hobbies which involve high bleed risk. All seems to be going well. Spent 5days in the hospital and been home for 6. Please please please be kind to your body and take advantage of rehabilitation. Taking the time now to strengthen your body and mind now will pay dividends in the future.
