About Me

Two years ago I was found to have a heart murmur at a routine physical. I was referred to have a echocardiogram and my mitral valve had moderate regurgitation. I'm 64, do yoga, bike, and swim at least five days per week. Always active and fit. Last Tuesday I had a yearly cardio visit and my cardiologist found some concerns from the echo. The next day I had a TEE and it was determined that my regurgitation had progressed to severe. I still have no symptoms, I swim, bike and do yoga. I'm scheduled to meet my surgeon April 8th and go over my options. Not sure when my surgery will be scheduled, but I'm staying positive and preparing myself for surgery. I'm stressed but know I need to do the mitral valve repair. UW specializes in this procedure and my surgeon has done many, many of these. I love this website and have learned so much. My son who is 18 has been so wonderful during this time, I'm a single dad, who will rely on my friends to help me through this experience. I'm taking the approach that this will make me a better person and father.
