About Me

Hi, I am 51years young and recently diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse and severe regurgitation. In 2012 I experienced some chest pain and subsequently diagnosed with a heart attack, even though the cath showed only one blockage, 50% of the LAD. My ejection fraction was 30% at the time of discharge. After about 3 months of holistic help, my heart was back to normal and I was feeling good. My last routine echo in Nov 2013 looked good, although the cardiologist did say that there was minimal mitral valve prolapse. We would just keep an eye on it. Fast forward to Oct 10,2014. My heart rate went up to 170 (normally in the 50's) and I called 911. I was in Afib. They used medication to convert me back to Sinus, but the echo showed severe regurgitation. I had been feeling sluggish and "out of shape" for a few months. Had TEE about a week after being released, and a heart cath shortly after. Both confirmed the MVP with severe regurgitation. Was referred to a surgeon by my cardiologist. Saw one last week, and seeking a second opinion at Mayo in Phoenix on Tuesday. The first surgeon recommended going ahead and fixing the 50% blockage (bypass). They also want to do the MAZE procedure.
