About Me

I am 58 years old and from Belfast, Maine. Approximately 3 years ago my PCP noted a change in my heart sounds. She referred me to a local cardiologist. He diagnosed my mitral valve prolapse with regurgitation. He monitored me all during this time. I had Echo cardiograms about every 6 months and one TEE (transesophageal echocardiogram). Over time the regurgitation worsened and I became symptomatic. I had shortness of breath when climbing stairs and increased palpitations and some lightheadedness. He recommended that I see a cardiac surgeon. I researched what hospital in the US did the most Mitral valve repairs/replacements and had the best outcomes. That was the Cleveland Clinic. I then researched surgeons and had a few in mind. Dr. Daniel Burns is my surgeon. I had successful robotic mitral valve repair four months ago and am doing very well. I wish I had found this website before I had surgery!
