I had the Ross Procedure performed by Dr. Paul Stelzer (his 201st) at Beth Israel Hospital on September 16, 1998. I have been doing fine until very lately; I have to have both valves replaced again (this time with mechanical valves - I know, that means Coumadin.... But I've been advised that with the "clickers" I would likely need no more surgery on the valves, whereas with pig or cow valves I likely would, if I live long enough. So the choice to go with the mechanical valves, and the Coumadin, was not an easy one. But hopefully it will be a smart one. Insight from anyone with experience would be greatly appreciated!). I also have an aortic aneurism, a pretty bad one, and I will have to have a good part of the ascending aorta replaced also. "Dr. E" at Yale is known as one of the best surgeons around for working on aortic aneurisms, and he's replaced a lot of valves, so my faith and trust are in him totally. I'm looking forward to updating here - as well as on Facebook and Instagram, and I'll also have my own blog so that I can keep my friends and family updated on my progress.
