Had 'mild' heart attack back in 2004 (is there such a thing?) with a subsequent two stent procedure. All good until this past January when murmur detected. Went through full battery of tests with Dr. Wertman (cardiologist) and Dr. Caffarelli (surgeon) leading to a diagnosis of Severe bicuspid aortic stenosis and CAD. The Hoag Hospital team has been on it leading me through the process. Had my pre-op testing and meeting day this past Thursday. Surgery this Wednesday. Bovine aortic valve replacement and double bypass CABG. Yes, some anxiety to be expected. But, I did my homework, including a second opinion meeting, understand what is taking place and am ready to make it happen with all the confidence in the Hoag team. Spending the weekend already preparing home for discharge with a lot of the suggestions made by 'the community'.
