"Dr. Harrington is extremely competent, experienced and confident. If you want someone to save your life, she is the one you will want. She does not have much of a bedside manner but at the end of the day, as nice as it is to have that, it's low on the priority list.

If I have to choose again, hands down I would pick her. Being a type A personality, I wanted to understand everything completely that pertained to my open-heart surgery and that was a difficult process for me. But my results and recovery was very successful.

Like many folks, I was healthy as a horse until I found out that I had a bicuspid aortic valve with severe stenosis that if unattended would have been fatal. I had a lot of questions for many reasons that left me searching for answers elsewhere. It's important for surgeons to understand that patients are more and more engaged in their health and do understand a lot more than the medical professionals assume.

"I am a retired cardiac RN. My doctor did not refer me. I did some detailed due diligence on my own and found Dr. Harrington. I looked at the surgeons at the Cleveland Clinic and at Mayo Clinic researching where they went to medical school, where they did their residency, if the did a fellowship and if they won any awards along the way. I was unhappy with their results. I found the Heart Hospital Baylor Plano while searching for valve centers for excellence. I researched all the surgeons there and they all sounded excellent.

But, one statement written by Dr. Harrington on this website stood out to me. She wrote that she enjoyed complex surgeries and redo surgery. Right then, I knew I had found the surgeon for me.

I don't care if my doctors are friendly or if they're nice or if they have good rapport with their patients. None of that matters. All that matters is that your surgeon has exemplary skills in order to keep you alive for a long, long time.

I found Dr. Harrington to be stunningly detail oriented, calm, efficient, cutting-edge knowledgeable and very smart.

She was attentive to me and to my family. She visited me multiple times a day. All my questions were answered...sometimes before I could even ask.

I would see her again in a nanosecond if something happened to me and would refer any of my family or friends to her.

One more thing. If a doctors office is scattered and disorganized, I guarantee you will not receive the care you need and deserve. Dr. Harrington's office is what I like to call "tight". That is a compliment and not a put-down comment. This office is very organized. They will answer your questions before and after the surgery. They are so sweet and pleasant when they talk to you that they make you feel like you're the only patient they have to talk to that day. If you leave a message, they call back promptly.

If you have to have surgery, complicated or not complicated, I feel no hesitation in telling you to see Dr. Harrington."

"Along with the aorta valve replacement a 5.5 cm aneurysm on the aorta was also removed. There were complications of severe inflamation caused by rheumatoid arthritis and medications which had to be considered prior to and during the surgery. "Having had 3 Aortic Valve Replacements in the last 36 years, I'm very happy to say that Dr. Harrington was absolutely fantastic as my 3rd (and hopefully last) Cardiac Heart Valve Surgeon. I was extremely distraught at the thought of yet another (Redo) Aortic Valve Replacement but she put my mind very much at ease, taking all the time in the world to explain my options and suggesting the best alternative for me. "I met with multiple surgeons before choosing Dr. Harrington. Her specialty as a cardiothoracic surgeon is aortic valve replacement and repair, and repairing the associated aneurysm. During my first consultation with Dr. Harrington, she walked us through all of the possible outcomes with great care and patience as my wife and I asked a lot of questions. Additionally, of all the surgeons I met with, she was the only one that gave me a chance to repair the valve and not replace it. Sparing the valve was a big deal for me because I was 36 when I had the surgery and the opportunity to not take blood thinners for a good portion of my life was a big deal.

The day of the surgery she came and visited me pre-surgery to walk through the procedure and see how I was doing – mentally, physically and emotionally. When I woke from surgery I was I fully prepared to hear the ticking of an artificial valve and to my surprise Dr. Harrington was able to repair the valve. She came and visited me and my family post-surgery and walked us through what she did to repair the valve. During the recovery period in the hospital she visited and walked me through what to expect during the following months, and her staff was great throughout the entire recovery process.

I've seen her a few times as follow-up visits and she still remains patience with me as I continue to ask questions.

By the way, if you want to know how determined she is to her job, she was 37 weeks pregnant when she completed my surgery and I was one of four surgeries that week. "Got a call from my youngest brother, Tim. Who lives in Texas. Asked "How long ago was my last echo?". It had been several years, for me. He asked that I have one done as soon as I could. He was having surgery the following week.

I got call from my cardiologist to see him. Least to say, and after making all the arrangements with my job. Surgery was set for August 2015. I knew everything would be ok.
