Heather Lister was diagnosed as a child with a bicuspid aortic valve, the most common congenital heart issue. When Heather turned forty, however, she didn’t feel right. Despite her community cardiologist telling Heather that all was well and come back in two years, she visited Mayo Clinic Florida for a second opinion.
Surprisingly, the Mayo Clinic Florida team found that Heather had an aortic aneurysm along with a family history of spontaneous dissection. The Mayo Clinic Florida experts, including genetics specialists, worked to devise a personalized plan that ultimately included surgery to reduce her risk before a life-threatening event.
Heather received a successful, valve-sparing aortic root repair performed at Mayo Clinic Florida. Watch the video below to see Heather's patient success story.
