What do you think? Is the tricuspid valve still known as the "Forgotten Valve" in medical circles? Are tricuspid valve patients still not getting diagnosed or treated for this serious, complicated and debilitating disease?

I just received an email from Henry who writes, "I'd like to see some articles on tricuspid valve repair and tricuspid valve replacement (aka the "Forgotten valve") especially for those of us with Implantable Cardioverter Defibrilators (ICDs) or pacemaker leads passing through the valve. There are current tricuspid valve repair trials. But, they all seem to balk at patients with leads. Just a thought. Thanks, Henry"

We've talked a lot about transcatheter aortic valve replacement, also known as TAVR. We've talked a lot about transcatheter mitral valve repair (e.g. the MitraClip). We've also talked about transcatheter mitral valve replacement devices (e.g. Tendyne) that are in clinical trials.

You may have noticed that most patients in our community have been diagnosed with an aortic or mitral valve disorder. Recently, however, I've been contacted by several patients who have tricuspid valve defects.

I just received a question about tricuspid valve surgery from Eva. She writes, "Adam - Can tricuspid valves be as easily repaired as mitral valves?"

As many of you know, I had double heart valve replacement due to a very leaky aortic valve that suffered from from calcified aortic leaflets. My problematic valve was a bicuspid aortic valve (that was both stenotic and had regurgitaiton).

The email reads, "Adam - I was just diagnosed with severe tricuspid regurgitation. I feel stupid asking this but where exactly is my tricuspid valve in my heart. The doctor showed me a fake, plastic heart but I can't remember right now. Please help!"

One of the most common questions I get via email is about heart valve disease symptoms. I just received an email that reads, "What are the tricuspid valve regurgitation symptoms?"
